East Of Acadia Woodworking is a small but growing business born from my passion for woodworking and increasing demand for my work.  I am Toby Chipman, a 5th generation commercial lobster fisherman in Downeast Maine.  My passion for woodworking has grown over the years, beginning at an early age.  I am self taught; learning by trial and error, side jobs in carpentry, asking questions  and watching woodworking shows on PBS like The Woodwright's Shop, The New Yankee Workshop, and Rough Cut With Tommy Mac.  (If you are wondering, that is before Youtube was a thing!). Over time I've gained more knowledge and experience with my craft, and enjoy a finer level of woodworking, preferring to work with hardwoods.  I don't consider myself a master craftsman because I always feel there's more to learn and skills to improve.
